All of us can have a significant international ministry right where we live! All of us can play a vital role in the Great Commission without a U.S. passport, a plane ticket and inoculation shots. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. During the second semester of my freshman year in college my uncle asked me if I would like to take some time off and travel. What?!?! I was thrilled at the prospect. He said he would cover all my expanses. What a deal! A year later I returned home from Viet Nam. Thinking I must enjoy getting shot at, my Uncle Sam sent me back to “The Nam” for two additional tours of duty. Upon returning back to the “real world,” I graduated from Cal-State University, Long Beach. While attending Talbot Seminary, I went on staff of the Long Beach Grace Brethren Church in 1976 as the Pastor of College Ministries and Missions. My wife, Jan, was also born and raised in Los Angeles. She graduated from Cal-State University, Long Beach. It was during her first year of teaching sixth grade in Long Beach that we met through Campus Crusade for Christ. God joined us in marriage on July 10, 1971. We have two children and two grandchildren. God launched us on a “cross-cultural leap” from L.A. to Winona Lake, Indiana in 1991 to go on staff with Grace Brethren International Missions. I serve as the Director of Internationals-USA.

Convicting quote that reminds me of the opportunities we have in our own backyard:
"Not all the pioneer missionary work which must be done today will take place in foreign countries.
Like a master chess player, God has moved representatives from unreached people groups far from their homelands all over the world and has plunked them down in the midst of traditionally Christian populations, essentially saying, "You have not gone to them, so I have brought them to you. Now tell them!"

Jay, I was very excited to see you introduced at our church, Marysville Grace Brethren (Marysivlle, OH) this morning. Looking forward to the missions seminar this evening. God is good and what better way to celebrate than by sharing the Gospel. This is one of our greatest responsibilites as disciples of Christ.
